Ghana Premier League: Asibey On How Winless Streak Driven Victory Over Port City

Hearts of Oak defender Kelvin Osei Asibey has disclosed that the club’s recent three-match winless run served as the primary motivation for their 1–0 victory over newly promoted Port City FC. According to post-match disclosures published by GhanaSoccernet on Monday, October 12, 2026, the central defender emphasized that the squad entered the matchday six fixture determined to restore confidence and deliver results for their supporters.

The Phobians hosted Port City FC at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday, securing all three points through a decisive header from striker Duku following a well-placed delivery into the penalty area by Nsobila. The win ended Hearts of Oak’s winless streak, moving the Accra-based side to second place in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League standings with 11 points.  Reflecting on the performance, Asibey noted that after going three matches without a win, the players recognized that securing maximum points was essential.

He explained that the pressure to deliver results galvanized the group’s focus and intensity throughout the 90 minutes against a disciplined Port City side.  With the victory, Hearts of Oak currently trail league leaders Medeama SC by three points, while Port City FC dropped to fourth place following their second defeat of the top-flight campaign. Head coach Nebojsa Kapor commended the team’s defensive resilience as the Phobians prepare for their upcoming Week 7 fixture against Vision FC in Tema.
