Gachagua Shares Powerful Bible Verse as He Leads Prayers for Kenya During US Church Service

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has shared a message of faith and encouragement with Kenyans after attending a Sunday church service in the United States, where he joined worshippers in praying for the country’s future.

Gachagua attended the service at St Stephen’s Anglican Church in Dracut, Massachusetts, on Sunday, October 11, 2026. He later revealed that the congregation prayed for Kenya, asking God to strengthen its people and bless the nation.

In a Facebook post published on Monday, October 12, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader shared details of the service alongside a Bible verse urging believers to remain courageous and trust in God’s presence during difficult times.

“This Sunday we joined the Christian faithful of St Stephen’s Anglican Church in Dracut, Massachusetts, USA, for Sunday service. We prayed for our nation, Kenya, asking the Lord God to strengthen the hearts of our people and bless Kenya,” Gachagua wrote.

He accompanied the message with Joshua 1:9, a passage that calls on believers to overcome fear and discouragement.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go,” the verse reads.

The former deputy president’s message placed prayer and encouragement at the centre of his latest public update from the United States, where he has been meeting Kenyans living abroad as part of an extended tour.

Gachagua departed Kenya on the night of Wednesday, August 26, accompanied by his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi. Before leaving, he said he planned to dedicate his initial days abroad to resting, praying, reading and spending time with his family after an intense period of political activity.

His trip has also included engagements with members of the Kenyan diaspora and consultations touching on the country’s political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.

According to the itinerary released by his party, the tour included Spokane in Washington, Portland in Oregon, Kansas City in Missouri, Dallas in Texas and the Boston area in Massachusetts.

Gachagua began his diaspora engagements in Spokane, where he met Kenyans living in the area and discussed matters affecting the country, public accountability and the contribution of citizens abroad to national development.

He subsequently travelled to Portland, where he addressed Kenyans during an interdenominational fellowship on September 11. During the gathering, he spoke about his plans for Kenya and the diaspora and urged Kenyans not to lose hope despite the challenges facing the country.

On September 12, he attended the launch of the DCP Oregon chapter. His activities in the area also included community engagements and a golf tournament at Gresham Golf Course.

The former deputy president later visited Kansas City, arriving on September 18 with his wife. Kenyans gathered to welcome the couple, with the reception featuring Kikuyu songs.

His subsequent engagements in Texas included meetings with Kenyans living in the state and discussions about Kenya’s political and economic future.

On September 26, Gachagua hosted members of the Kenyan community at a property in rural Dallas, which he described as his private home and referred to as “Wamunyoro Texas”.

His latest church appearance in Massachusetts adds a religious dimension to his public engagements abroad, with his message focusing on prayer, courage and hope for Kenya.

The Bible verse he selected, Joshua 1:9, is associated with encouragement in the face of uncertainty. By sharing it alongside news of the congregation’s prayers for Kenya, Gachagua called attention to the importance of faith and national well-being during a period of political activity ahead of the next general election.
