Famed comedian reveals he was targeted by criminals during short trip to notorious California city

One of America’s highest-grossing stand-up comedians went to Oakland to crack jokes, but local thieves had the last laugh.

Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias got a brutal taste of Oakland reality when he was in the notorious city to perform at the city’s arena. Carjackers broke into his SUV while he clicked a photo at the edge of Lake Merritt.

“Hello from Oakland. So beautiful. Hard to believe they broke into our SUV only 200 feet away from this pic,” the comedian posted on X.

Netizens didn’t hold back, reminding him that such breaks are part of a routine life in Oakland, not an exception.

“Not hard to believe at all. You’re in Oakland. You are only five miles away from the closing of the only In-N-Out ever.

“All because of legalized criminalism, brought to you courtesy of Democratic policies,” one X user commented on Iglesias’ post.

Another user shared a similar story. “A project manager at my old employer had his backpack stolen from his truck while he was at a gas station in Oakland,” Garrett Courtney commented.

“They’re bold out there– he was RIGHT THERE managing the gas nozzle. Lost a Surface laptop and some expensive camera equipment,” Courtney added.

Iglesias is currently on the road for “The 1976 Tour: A Fluffy Celebration,” hitting arenas and major venues across North America and Australia through early 2027.

His next upcoming performance takes place at the North Charleston Coliseum in South Carolina on Oct. 16.
