EPL Matchday 6: Man City thrash Liverpool as Chelsea, Arsenal record wins

Manchester City delivered the standout result of the Premier League weekend, Matchday 6, with a 3-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield, while Chelsea scored five goals against Bournemouth and Arsenal fought back to beat Leeds United 2-1.

The EPL Matchday 6 fixtures, played on Saturday and Sunday, October 10 and 11, also saw Brighton win away at Sunderland despite being reduced to 10 men, Ipswich Town score twice late to defeat Fulham and Crystal Palace recover from an early setback to beat Nottingham Forest.

Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Tottenham Hotspur, while Aston Villa and Brentford shared four goals. Hull City and Everton also drew 2-2.

Manchester City strengthened their position at the top of the table with a 3-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki scored in the second half as City took advantage of Liverpool’s numerical disadvantage to secure an emphatic win.

Liverpool had competed well before Ryan Gravenberch was sent off in the 62nd minute for a second yellow card following a foul on Doku.

City broke the deadlock shortly afterwards, with Haaland scoring in the 65th minute. Doku doubled the lead three minutes later before Cherki completed the victory in the 78th minute.

The result was particularly significant because it was City’s first match since an independent commission found the club guilty of charges relating to serious breaches of Premier League financial rules. City have appealed the verdict and continue to deny wrongdoing.

The visitors faced a hostile reception at Anfield but responded with a strong second-half performance.

The victory kept City top of the table with 18 points from six matches, three ahead of Arsenal.

Chelsea produced one of their most impressive attacking displays of the season, beating Bournemouth 5-1 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Jordan Henderson scored twice, while Morgan Rogers and Joao Pedro also found the net in a commanding performance by Xabi Alonso’s side.
