The South African Police Service has confirmed that the deputy police commissioner, Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya, is no longer an employee of the SAPS.

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, said Sibiya’s disciplinary hearing took place on Monday morning where his lawyer tendered his resignation immediately after the disciplinary proceedings had commenced.

Mathe said as the former senior officer had an ongoing disciplinary case against him at the time of his resignation, his departure from the Service is therefore regarded as a “dishonourable discharge.”

Sibiya is currently facing criminal charges stemming from alleged incidents that took place between 16 May and 3 August 2026.

The National Prosecuting Authority said his case involves two separate complainants: an adult female and a 16-year-old minor.

NPA spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said in an earlier statement that the State alleges that General Sibiya sexually groomed the teenager through electronic communications and further promoted child grooming.

He said the accused is directly linked to an alleged incident of rape involving the adult female complainant.

Sibiya faces an additional charge of trafficking in persons involving three separate individuals.
