The suspect is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrates Court on Monday, 12 October 2026, on a charge relating to possession of stolen property.

However, police have warned against jumping to conclusions, confirming that the suspect hasn’t been charged with Moselakgomo’s murder.

SAPS national spokeswoman Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed the arrest on Monday.

The South African Police Service confirms that a suspect who was found in possession of an item belonging to runner Moselakgomo has been arrested.

“At this stage, no murder charge has been brought against the suspect. Investigations are ongoing,” Mathe said.

The arrest is a development in the investigation into Moselakgomo’s killing. The Commission Recommended Task Team (CRTT) took over the case about a week ago.

Detectives will continue investigating how the item ended up in the suspect’s possession and whether the information gathered could help establish what happened to the 38-year-old runner.

Police haven’t confirmed that the recovered item directly links the suspect to her murder.

Moselakgomo went missing on 9 September while out on a run. Her body was found in Kempton Park on 12 September.

Her killing raised fresh concerns about women’s safety in Ekurhuleni, where several women’s bodies have been discovered in different areas in recent months.

Her death left loved ones and fellow runners desperate for answers as investigators worked to establish who was responsible.

The latest arrest marks progress in the case, but detectives still have work to do.

For now, the suspect is expected to face the charge relating to stolen property while investigations into Moselakgomo’s murder continue.
