Black Bombers beat Metro Detroit Golden Gloves 6-4 in thrilling ‘Fist of Fury’ showdown
The Bukom Boxing Arena was filled with excitement on Saturday, October 10, 2026, as Ghana’s Black Bombers secured a 6-4 victory over the Metro Detroit Golden Gloves in an international friendly boxing contest dubbed “Fist of Fury.”
The event attracted several dignitaries, including the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Richard Akpokavie, alongside members of the diplomatic corps and other stakeholders in the boxing fraternity.
Ten bouts, each consisting of three rounds, were contested on the night, with the Black Bombers emerging victorious after an impressive display of skill, strength and determination.
Despite a spirited performance from the visiting Metro Detroit Golden Gloves team, Ghana’s boxers capitalised on their strength and the overwhelming support of the home crowd to secure the overall win.
Despite Ghana’s overall victory, Darius Parlor of the Metro Detroit Golden Gloves stole the spotlight after delivering an outstanding performance in the final bout of the evening.
Parlor defeated Ghana’s Jibril Muntari in the closing contest, earning recognition as the best fighter of the night. His impressive showing provided a fitting end to an entertaining evening of international boxing.
Speaking after the event, President of the Metro Detroit Golden Gloves, Katealia Chambers, expressed gratitude to the Ghana Boxing Federation and the sponsors for making the visit and the friendly contest possible.
“This is a wonderful experience, and we are very grateful to the Ghana Boxing Federation and our sponsors for making this possible. We can’t wait to reciprocate this same hospitality when you guys come to Detroit,” Chambers said.
Vice-President of the Ghana Boxing Federation, Nii Adama Addy, described the contest as an important exercise for Ghana’s boxers as they prepare for the 2026 Olympic qualification campaign.
“This is a very important exercise for our guys ahead of the 2026 Olympics Qualification. We hope to have more of these friendly bouts early next year to prepare our boys for qualifiers ahead,” Addy said.
The federation’s plans to organise more friendly bouts early next year could offer the Black Bombers further opportunities to test themselves against international opposition as they continue preparations for Olympic qualification.
