Committee orders coordinated, decisive action against terrorism, approves steps to strengthen police and CTD

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Apex Committee has reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating terrorism and restoring lasting peace in the province, directing relevant institutions to intensify coordinated efforts and strengthen the operational capacity of law enforcement agencies.

The meeting, chaired by KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, reviewed the province’s security situation and discussed measures to improve law and order while addressing long-standing public concerns through better services and socio-economic development.

According to the official statement, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, members of the Advisory Council and the Corps Commander Peshawar attended the meeting. The chief secretary, inspector general of police and senior civil and military officials also participated.

The forum paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the war against terrorism. Participants conducted a detailed review of the overall security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and deliberated on measures to eradicate terrorism completely and establish sustainable peace.

The committee directed all relevant agencies to ensure coordinated, effective and decisive action against terrorist threats. It also reaffirmed that intelligence-based operations would continue and that all available resources would be utilised to improve law and order.

The Apex Committee emphasised the need to enhance the operational capabilities of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD).

Under the decisions announced in the official statement, the police and CTD will be provided with modern equipment, advanced weaponry, armoured vehicles and additional personnel to strengthen their ability to respond to security threats.

The forum declared that eliminating terrorism and maintaining law and order remained shared objectives and top priorities. It also made clear that there would be no compromise on maintaining peace and security across the province.

Alongside security measures, the meeting stressed the need to resolve long-standing problems faced by the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and improve their overall standard of living.

The committee called for the provision of basic amenities in underdeveloped and terrorism-affected areas, recognising that better living conditions and effective public services were important to achieving sustainable peace.

Special attention will be given to education, healthcare and urban living standards, areas the statement said had been overlooked in the past. The forum stressed that these sectors were directly linked to public security, stability and lasting peace.

The meeting also agreed to ensure the resolution of public grievances, improve access to basic facilities and deliver government services to people’s doorsteps.

According to the official statement, public suggestions, community needs and local priorities will be incorporated into policymaking and the implementation of practical measures. The aim is to ensure that government initiatives respond more effectively to the needs of residents across the province.

The forum reiterated its commitment to promoting socio-economic development through stronger institutional cooperation and a coordinated strategy. It said all relevant institutions would continue working together to achieve the shared goals of peace, stability and development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
