According to a report by The Vanguard on Monday, October 12, 2026, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially published the final list of contenders for the upcoming 2027 general elections, revealing a notable representation of young political aspirants.
A total of 37 candidates aged between 35 and 39 have successfully scaled the electoral body’s screening process to fly their respective party flags across various states.
The comprehensive document highlights a strong push by the younger demographic seeking to occupy executive positions at the state level.
Prominent among those appearing on the cleared roster are 35-year-old flag-bearers like Wombo Terese Paul of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) in Benue, Umar Ahmad of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Jigawa, and Shehu Ibrahim of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Sokoto.
Other ambitious contenders within the bracket feature 39-year-old Umezurike Doris Uzumma of the African Action Congress (AAC) in Abia, Bundi Ahmadu Pius of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Adamawa, and Tukur Rabiu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Kaduna.
Political analysts note that this development injects fresh momentum into the nation’s political space, providing a platform for youthful participation in leadership.
As parties finalize their campaign structures, these young flag-bearers are expected to mobilize their demographic networks to challenge more veteran politicians in the fierce race to govern their respective states come 2027.
