Hundreds of protesters poured into New York City’s Herald Square demanding that ICE leave the city after a federal immigration agent shot 28-year-old Oscar Belgal during an enforcement operation in Marble Hill. Demonstrators also gathered in Marble Hill and Foley Square as anger over the shooting spread across the city. Belgal, a Dominican man, was shot in the neck while his 5-year-old son was inside the vehicle. The child was unharmed. Federal authorities say Belgal refused to comply, struck ICE vehicles and accelerated toward officers; those claims remain disputed and Reuters said it could not independently verify the government’s account.
