Vienna holds town hall meeting following mass shooting in Dooly County

VIENNA, Ga. (WALB) — Vienna Mayor Eddie Daniels held a town hall meeting Sunday, Oct. 11, following a mass shooting in Dooly County that left two people dead and 35 injured.

The meeting was held at 1 p.m. at Vienna City Hall. Daniels invited residents, business owners and community members to attend.

The shooting happened early Oct. 4 during a neighborhood block party. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Dooly County deputies were patrolling around 1:25 a.m. when they heard gunfire in the 900 block of Pine Street. Deputies found multiple people who had been shot and two men dead.

The men killed were identified as Ja’Quavion Aderious Jackson, 21, of Cordele, and Macaleb Malik Jackson, 23, of Hawkinsville. Of the 35 people injured, 26 were shot, officials said. Victims were taken to multiple hospitals.

On Friday, Oct. 9, the GBI and Dooly County Sheriff’s Office arrested Khadarius “KD” Ray, 17, of Dooly County. He is charged with possessing a firearm or handgun while under 18 and participating in criminal street gang activity. GBI officials said they expect additional arrests.
