Video Captures Moment Koffi Olomide Appears to Argue With Fred Machoka After Performance

A video showing a brief exchange between Congolese rhumba star Koffi Olomide and veteran Kenyan broadcaster Fred Obachi Machoka has attracted attention following the latter’s 50th anniversary celebration in Nairobi.

The incident reportedly occurred during the Machoka @50 Grand Concert held at Ulinzi Sports Complex on Saturday, October 10, 2026.

The event brought together musicians, politicians, media personalities and fans to celebrate Machoka’s five decades in broadcasting.

Olomide was among the headline performers at the event, entertaining guests with his popular rhumba songs alongside his Quartier Latin International orchestra.

His performance was one of the major attractions of the celebration, which also featured other established African musicians.

However, attention later shifted to a video capturing what appeared to be a disagreement between the singer and Machoka as Olomide left the stage.

Sources close to the event organisers reportedly indicated that Machoka had hoped to dance with the Congolese musician.

However, according to the accounts, the broadcaster only made his way onto the stage after Olomide had completed his performance.

The timing reportedly led to the exchange captured in the circulating footage.

The full circumstances surrounding the interaction, however, remain unclear, and the video alone does not establish what was said between the two entertainers.

Machoka and Olomide have a longstanding connection through music and broadcasting.

The veteran presenter has previously spoken about introducing the singer to Kenyan audiences during the early stages of his career and considers him a younger brother.

The anniversary concert was organised to recognise Machoka’s contribution to Kenyan media and his role in popularising rhumba music through radio, television.
