Trump says Ukraine and Russia agree ‘energy ceasefire’ but both sides yet to comment

Donald Trump says Ukraine and Russia have agreed to an immediate "energy ceasefire", without providing further details

In a social media post, Trump claims "both parties have agreed" – neither has commented publicly

It comes after Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned Donald Trump's announcement of a deal to import Russian diesel into the US, calling it a "gift" to President Putin

In return, Trump hit back that it was "time for Ukraine to get a new president"

US President Donald Trump's post claiming an "energy ceasefire" has been struck was short and didn't contain much detail.

He wrote on Truth Social: "Effective immediately, there is an ENERGY CEASEFIRE in the War between Russia and Ukraine. Both parties have agreed. Do not break it!"

We've asked the White House for more detail.

Russia is yet to comment, but US news site Axios reports Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says Trump's announcement is "news for me".

The president had earlier warned Ukraine to "damn well stop" attacking Russia's oil refineries.

It comes amid a bubbling row between Trump and Zelensky, who on Sunday said they will be "ready to stop striking Russian oil refineries if Russia stops striking our energy infrastructure".

Both Russia and Ukraine have stepped up attacks on infrastructure in recent months as the war between them continues into its fifth year following Russia's full-scale invasion.
