Tottenham to leave UK immediately after Man Utd game following Roberto De Zerbi request

It has been a poor start to the season for De Zerbi's side.

Roberto De Zerbi and his Tottenham side will head to Marbella following their Premier League clash against Manchester United, a trip that has been scheduled to 'kick-start' their season.

It has been a difficult start to the 2026-27 campaign for Spurs. They currently sit bottom of the table with two draws and three defeats from their opening five games.

In fact, despite spending more than £250 million on new talent in the summer, it is the club's worst start to a Premier League season in their history – a poor spell that De Zerbi is desperate to turn around.

The Italian has scheduled a team bonding trip to Marbella in a bid to 'kick-start their campaign and provide a chance for their new-look squad to bond', according to BBC Sport.

If the trip does happen, then the likes of Savio, Mykhailo Mudryk, Omar Marmoush and Tosin Adarabioyo, who all joined in the summer window, will have time to bond with their new teammates in southern Spain.

To see a team head abroad so early in the season is rare. Typically, warm-weather training camps are scheduled during the winter months. Temperatures in Marbella, meanwhile, are predicted to reach 25 degrees.

Ahead of Tottenham's trip to Old Trafford on Saturday, some have questioned whether De Zerbi can turn things around at the North London club, including former QPR and Southampton striker Charlie Austin.

Speaking on talkSPORT, pundit Ade Oladipo described De Zerbi as "quite volatile" in his demeanour.

"I look at someone like De Zerbi and I just look at a manager that's quite volatile, quite angry. If it's not going well," he said.

"I don't want to say he walks because he'd rather be pushed, the money he gets if he's pushed is quite big. I just don't see how it works, I just don't see how they turn this around."

Austin proceeded to question whether he can turn around Tottenham's fortunes. "What, in his managerial record, has he done to think he's going to turn this around?" Austin replied.

"Spurs fans, do you have the belief in him, because what has he shown at other clubs that he can turn Spurs around, and get them where you think they should be? Because there's no proof in the pudding."

Austin added: "Tell me the players in that Spurs dressing room that are going to run through a brick wall for him."
