Three Indians Rescued from Attacked Black Sea Vessel Leave Romania for India
Three Indian nationals rescued from the commercial vessel MV Royad Mammadov after it came under attack in the Black Sea have departed from Romania for India, the Indian Embassy in Bucharest said on Saturday.
In a post on X, the Embassy identified the three nationals as Sahil Sandhu, Ashwini Kumar and Harman Singh, confirming that it had provided the necessary assistance to facilitate their return.
The Embassy also expressed gratitude to the Romanian authorities, Constanta County Hospital and Romanian rescue teams for their support and cooperation following the incident.
The three Indians were rescued from the vessel on Tuesday. On Wednesday, an Embassy representative visited them in Romania. Two of the nationals were staying at a hotel, while the third was receiving medical treatment at Constanta County Hospital.
The Embassy had said it was extending all necessary assistance to ensure their safe and early departure from Romania. Essential items, including mobile phones, were arranged through the shipping company’s local agent, while Indian food was organised through a local Indian restaurant.
The Embassy representative also met local police officials, the shipping company’s agent and the treating doctors to coordinate further assistance.
India had condemned attacks targeting commercial vessels in the Black Sea region, calling for dialogue and diplomacy to de-escalate tensions and facilitate an early return to peace.
Addressing a bi-weekly media briefing in New Delhi, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said such attacks threatened commercial shipping and endangered the lives of seafarers.
“We have seen a string of attacks targeting commercial vessels in the Black Sea region in the last one or two days. We condemn such attacks that threaten commercial shipping and endanger lives of our seafaring community,” Jaiswal said.
He confirmed that three Indian nationals were aboard the MV Royad Mammadov when it came under attack. All three were safe, although one had sustained injuries and was receiving treatment.
Jaiswal also thanked the Romanian authorities for their assistance in responding to the incident.
