“Some Social Media Handlers Are Saying Seriake Dickson Is Working For Tinubu & Not Obi–Moses Cleopas
The National Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, has criticised allegations that the party’s national leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, is secretly working for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu instead of supporting Peter Obi’s presidential ambition.
During a press conference following a two-day meeting of the NDC National Working Committee shared by SYMFONI, Cleopas responded to claims being circulated on social media concerning Dickson’s loyalty to the party.
He maintained that the accusations were misleading and did not reflect the relationship between the national leader and the party’s presidential candidate.
Speaking about the allegations, Cleopas said, “Some social media handlers are saying Seriake Dickson is working for Tinubu and is not supporting Peter Obi. Do they even think?”
The party chairman explained that some individuals had questioned Dickson’s intentions despite the senator’s involvement in establishing the NDC. According to him, the claims suggested that the former Bayelsa State governor maintained a political understanding with the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Cleopas rejected that interpretation and recalled how some political associates had previously encouraged Dickson to seek the NDC presidential nomination. He said the senator declined the suggestion because he had not decided to contest the election and did not want to mislead anyone about his political plans.
According to Cleopas, Dickson could have retained the party’s presidential ticket if his intention had been to use the platform for political negotiations. He argued that the senator instead made the platform available to candidates who were prepared to contest the presidency.
The NDC chairman also discussed the experience Dickson had acquired from serving as governor and participating in the National Assembly. He maintained that the senator’s political background provided opportunities for him to seek higher office but that he had chosen a different role within the party.
Cleopas explained that Dickson continued participating in consultations involving Obi, Kwankwaso and the National Working Committee. He said the party’s national leader remained involved in discussions about the presidential campaign council and other preparations for the forthcoming election.
He further appealed to members of the press to avoid spreading information that could create unnecessary divisions within the party.
According to him, political disagreements and unverified allegations should not be allowed to misrepresent the intentions of party officials who were working together.
The NDC chairman noted that Dickson’s commitment to the party had not changed since its establishment. He maintained that the national leadership continued supporting its presidential and vice-presidential candidates and dismissed suggestions that the former Bayelsa governor was secretly pursuing a different political arrangement.
