Sobhana Mostary Becomes First Bangladesh Woman to Score International Century Against Australia

Bangladesh batter Sobhana Mostary created history by becoming the first woman from her country to score an international century against Australia during the second ODI at Allan Border Field in Brisbane on Sunday.

Mostary struck a brilliant 118 off 134 deliveries, scoring her maiden international hundred and helping Bangladesh post 220/6 in the must-win match after being asked to bat first.

Bangladesh were in deep trouble at 8/3 in the early stages of their innings before Mostary and captain Nigar Sultana joined forces to rescue the visitors. The pair put together a massive 195-run partnership for the fourth wicket, giving Bangladesh a competitive total to defend.

Mostary struck 18 boundaries during her innings, while Sultana contributed a patient 74 off 114 balls.

Before Mostary’s historic 118, the highest individual score by a Bangladesh woman against Australia was Sultana’s unbeaten 63 in a T20 International.

The 195-run stand also set a new record for Bangladesh’s highest partnership for any wicket in women’s ODI cricket. It surpassed the previous record of 152 runs, shared by Sultana and Sharmin Akhter for the third wicket against Thailand in 2025.

The partnership also became the highest for any wicket against Australia in women’s ODIs, eclipsing the previous record of 170 runs set by New Zealand’s Emily Drumm and Rebecca Rolls for the second wicket in 2002.

Mostary’s memorable innings ended in the 48th over when Megan Schutt bowled her. Schutt finished with four wickets, striking twice during the powerplay to dismiss Fargana Hoque and Sharmin Akhter before later removing Shorna Akter.

Despite the early setbacks, Bangladesh managed to reach 220/6 as they sought to level the series after losing the opening ODI.
