Senator Amir Chishti elected to IPU Committee on Health with highest votes

ISLAMABAD  –  Senator Amir Chishti has been elected to IPU Committee on Health with highest votes in this Assembly. Senator Chishti, who had applied for membership of the Committee on Health, contested the election held on the sidelines of the 153rd IPU Assembly at Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC), Arusha, Tanzania. Securing the top position with 64 votes, his election is being hailed as a major achievement for Pakistan. The newly elected President of the IPU and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Australia,  Milton Dick,  congratulated Senator Chishti on his impressive victory. Chairman Senate of Pakistan and Head of the Pakistani delegation, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, and Speaker National Assembly of Pakistan also extended heartfelt congratulations to Senator Amir Chishti, terming his success a proud moment for the Parliament of Pakistan and recognition of Pakistan’s constructive role in global parliamentary diplomacy. The IPU Committee on Health is a key body mandated to address global health challenges, health security, universal health coverage and strengthening of health systems from a parliamentary perspective. Senator Amir Chishti expressed his sincere gratitude to all members who reposed confidence in him and reaffirmed his commitment to actively contribute to the Committee’s agenda and to project Pakistan’s perspective on global health issues.
