RIP: Shock as Junior Teacher Commits Suicide at His Makueni Residence

A 38-year-old junior secondary school teacher in Makueni County has died by suicide, leaving his family, colleagues and the local community searching for answers about the circumstances surrounding his death.

Francis Kaleli, a science teacher at Kilungu Comprehensive School, died at his residence in Barcelona, Sakai.His death came just three weeks before he was expected to complete his two-year internship, which would have put him on the path to securing permanent employment.

Following his death, police moved his body to Tawa Funeral Home as arrangements for his burial got underway.

His widow, Jennifer Musyoki, revealed that Kaleli had been struggling with personal challenges, including alcohol-related problems and frustrations at home.

His death has raised questions about the difficulties he faced in his private life and whether he had access to adequate emotional support during this challenging period.

Completing his internship would have marked a major milestone in his teaching career, offering him an opportunity to achieve greater job security and stability.However, his death cut short those prospects, leaving his family and colleagues devastated.

Kaleli was laid to rest at Sakai Village in Makueni County in a ceremony attended by fellow teachers, representatives of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and education officials.

Teachers from Kilungu Comprehensive School carried his coffin as mourners gathered to pay their final respects to their colleague.

The burial also provided an opportunity for members of the teaching fraternity to reflect on mental health challenges affecting educators and the need for stronger support systems within schools.

Kaleli’s death has added to concerns about suicide in Makueni County, where families continue to grapple with painful losses and seek answers about the circumstances surrounding such tragedies.
