Reactions as Vinicius Junior Apologizes on Instagram After Red Card Against Villarreal Last Night

According to a post on his official Instagram account on Saturday October 10, 2026, Vinícius Júnior apologized to his teammates and Real Madrid supporters after receiving a red card during Saturday night’s 1-0 win over Villarreal.

The Brazilian forward shared a brief message on Instagram on October 10, 2026, acknowledging the incident.

“The joy continues… I apologize to my team and the fans.”

Vinícius entered the match as a substitute in the 52nd minute. In the 71st, he appeared to score a second goal for Real Madrid after a quick attack, but the goal was overturned following a VAR review.

The review showed Vinícius pulling Villarreal defender Nathan Saliba’s hair during the build-up. The referee disallowed the goal and sent off the forward for violent conduct, leaving Real Madrid to finish the match with 10 players.

Real Madrid held on to their 1-0 lead, secured by Yan Diomandé’s 63rd-minute goal, to claim victory at the Santiago Bernabéu. Diomandé’s strike was his first in La Liga and proved decisive in a match that ended with a late disciplinary flashpoint.

Vinícius’s post combined a celebratory note about the result with an apology for his role in the incident.

He did not elaborate further in the message, but directly addressed both his teammates and the club’s supporters.

The sending-off could have consequences for the forward’s availability in upcoming matches, depending on the disciplinary decision.

The incident also overshadowed what had looked like a second goal for Real Madrid, as the VAR review changed both the scoreline and Vinícius’s status in the match.

Despite the dismissal, Real Madrid preserved their advantage and took all three points. Vinícius’s apology followed soon after the final whistle, as the team’s win and his red card became the main talking points from the game.
