Punjab Police ASI Shot Dead by Bike-Borne Assailants in Tarn Taran; Gangster’s Claim Surfaces

The 55-year-old ASI, posted with the CIA Staff in Ferozepur, was reportedly returning home after paying obeisance at a local Gurdwara when he was intercepted and fired upon by the unidentified attackers.

According to preliminary information, Iqbal Singh was travelling on his motorcycle and was dressed in civilian clothes at the time of the attack.

The assailants, who were also riding a motorcycle, allegedly waylaid the ASI and opened fire, resulting in his death.

Sources revealed that a nephew of the deceased ASI had also been killed by assailants on September 11, 2026, nearly a month before Sunday’s incident.

In connection with that earlier murder, one of the accused was reportedly injured and arrested following an encounter with police.

However, it has not yet been established whether the two killings are connected.

The killing of Iqbal Singh is being reported as the third murder of a Punjab Police official in recent months, raising fresh concerns over attacks targeting police personnel in the state.

The circumstances surrounding Sunday’s attack and the motive behind the killing remain to be established.

Meanwhile, reports have emerged that gangster Dony Bal has claimed responsibility for the ASI’s murder through a social media post circulated from an account bearing the name Gopi Ghansyam.

YesPunjab has not independently verified the authenticity of the social media post or the identity of the person operating the account. No police or other competent authority has confirmed the purported claim of responsibility.

Consequently, the alleged involvement of Dony Bal remains unverified, and the social media claim cannot be treated as established evidence linking him to the murder.

Further details regarding the attackers, their motive and the investigation are awaited.
