Polling Data Highlights Mixed Approval Ratings For President Mahama In Ashanti Region Ahead Of 2028
Recent survey data analyzed by political analyst Mussa Dankwah reveals mixed approval ratings for President John Dramani Mahama across 14 constituencies in the Ashanti Region, a traditional stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). The poll provides early insights into voter sentiment as political strategists begin projecting outcomes for the 2028 general elections.
The survey indicates that President Mahama faces negative net approval ratings in four major constituencies: Old Tafo, Ejisu, Oforikrom, and Bosomtwe. Net approval ratings reflect the difference between respondents who evaluate the president’s performance positively against those who view it unfavorably. Conversely, the president retained strong positive net favorability in constituencies such as Atwima Kwawonma (78%), Asawase (55%), and Akrofuom (53%).
A notable trend in the data shows local Members of Parliament generally outperforming the president in net approval across 12 out of the 14 surveyed constituencies. For example, in Subin, the sitting MP leads the president’s approval rating by 61 percentage points. Similarly, in Akrofuom, the MP achieved an 85% net approval rating compared to Mahama’s 53%. Political analysts note that this gap demonstrates voters’ ability to separate their evaluation of local parliamentary leadership from their assessment of executive governance.
The top-rated MPs in the region include representatives for Subin (86%), Akrofuom (85%), and Nsuta/Kwamang/Beposo (83%), while the lowest ratings were recorded in Bosomtwe (-17%) and Ejisu (7%).
Dankwah noted that these polling dynamics are currently being integrated into predictive models to forecast future electoral trajectories. The findings suggest that while President Mahama retains pockets of support in the Ashanti Region, persistent dissatisfaction in key urban and peri-urban constituencies presents strategic challenges for the ruling party ahead of 2028.
