One Arch Manning play may have ruined his Heisman campaign and potential first overall pick candidacyNCAA. Bill Belichick staves off hot seat with road win, but star UNC player makes headlines for the wrong reasonIt wasn’t that long ago that Dylan Raiola went viral on social media for his likeness to Patrick Mahomes. The Kansas City Chiefs superstar was Raiola’s biggest influence, leading to the Nebraska quarterback copying his style and even his pregame routine. It would have been corny if Raiola didn’t actually have the talent to back it up.
Raiola became the starting quarterback of the Cornhuskers as a true freshman, then got off to a strong start in Year 2 before a broken fibula ended his season. Dreaming of bigger things, Raiola transferred to Oregon, where he thought he would slot in as the starting quarterback; the only problem was that Dante Moore decided to return to school.
That left Raiola as Moore’s backup for the 2026 season. A major concussion for Moore saw Raiola in the national spotlight once again, and he delivered in relief of Moore against USC, leading the team to a 41-27 win with 289 yards and two touchdowns. His next game was a totally different story, though.
Against UCLA on Saturday, Raiola imploded. He completed just 6-of-19 pass attempts for 43 yards and threw two interceptions. Head coach Dan Lanning saw enough, opting to bench Raiola for Brock Thomas, who didn’t light the world on fire but fared much better. Oregon ended up losing the game 17-15.
It’s still unclear when or if Moore will be back this season. This was the golden opportunity Raiola needed to showcase his talent and position himself for a big senior season at Oregon; that would have led to first round NFL Draft talk. Now, his Oregon and NFL future are in doubt.
