NPP Considers Reconciliation With Kennedy Agyapong as Disciplinary Report Remains Pending
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has indicated its willingness to reconcile with Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, as the party awaits a disciplinary committee report concerning complaints about his public comments.
According to a report published by MyJoyOnline on October 5, 2026, Nana Akomea, the party’s newly elected Third Vice Chairperson, said the committee had requested an extension after initially receiving two weeks to complete its work. He added that he had not received an update confirming the submission of the report.
The development follows a decision by the NPP’s National Executive Committee and National Council to refer petitions against Agyapong to the party’s National Disciplinary Committee in June 2026.
MyJoyOnline reported on June 25 that the petitions arose from public statements attributed to Agyapong, including criticism of the party’s leadership and concerns about the failure to operationalise the Afari Military Hospital during the previous administration.
The disciplinary process has drawn attention because Agyapong remains a prominent figure within the NPP. His comments have generated differing reactions among party members, with some expressing concern about their possible effect on party unity, while others view his criticism as an expression of dissatisfaction that deserves consideration.
Nana Akomea’s recent remarks suggest that reconciliation remains possible. However, he indicated that any return to a cooperative relationship would require Agyapong to be willing to engage with the party and work with its leadership.
For now, the committee’s findings and any subsequent decision by the party’s leadership remain important outstanding developments.
The outcome could influence the NPP’s efforts to strengthen internal unity as it prepares for future political contests. Whether the disagreement will be resolved through dialogue or lead to further disciplinary action will depend on the committee’s findings and the decisions taken by the party’s leadership.
