Nollywood Is The Only Thing Apart From Oil That Can Give You Quick Cash If You Are Good— Hanks Anuku

Veteran Nollywood actor Hanks Anuku has spoken about the financial opportunities he experienced in Nigeria’s movie industry, describing Nollywood as one of the few sectors outside the oil industry that could provide people with quick financial returns when they were good at what they did.

Anuku made the statement while reflecting on his years in Nollywood and the opportunities available to actors who were able to establish themselves and consistently deliver good performances.

Speaking during an interview on The Honest Bunch Podcast on Monday, October 5, 2026, the veteran actor compared Nollywood’s earning potential with Nigeria’s oil sector, stressing that being good at one’s craft was an important factor in making money from the industry.

In his words: “It is the only thing apart from oil that can give you quick cash, if you are good in what you are doing.”

Anuku’s statement reflects his perspective on the opportunities that Nollywood provided during the period when he was actively building his acting career.

Rather than describing the industry simply as a source of employment, the actor presented it as a sector where individuals with the necessary talent and ability could potentially generate income relatively quickly.

His emphasis was particularly on competence, as he linked the financial rewards available in Nollywood to being good at what one does.

The actor has spent decades in the Nigerian movie industry and became known for playing a wide range of roles, including characters that helped establish him as one of Nollywood’s recognisable veteran actors.

Anuku’s comments also come as he continues to reflect publicly on different aspects of his life and career. During the same Honest Bunch Podcast appearance, he spoke about his background, his faith, his family and some of the experiences that shaped his career in the entertainment industry.

On another aspect of his life, Anuku previously explained that his father was a First Republic minister who worked with Chief Obafemi Awolowo, while his mother was from Anambra State and his father was from Delta State.

He also revealed that he is a twin, identifying his twin brother as Kehinde.

Speaking about his religious life during the interview, Anuku said Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God ordained him as a pastor when he was younger.

He said: “Pastor Adeboye conferred me as a pastor when I was young then, I am a pastor but people don’t know I am a pastor. I love God.”

The actor added: “Go and ask him he will tell you, then my wife was alive.” he said.
