Messi Hits 934 Career Goals With Brace in Inter Miami’s 4-0 Win
Lionel Messi has continued his remarkable goalscoring run, netting twice as Inter Miami defeated DC United 4-0 to reach 934 career goals in official matches.
The Argentine superstar delivered the performance on Saturday night, October 10, in his first appearance for Inter Miami after bidding farewell to Argentina’s national team.
Inter Miami had already taken control before half-time through Luis Suárez, who scored twice to put the hosts 2-0 ahead.
Messi then took over after the break. He scored in the 47th minute following a pass from Suárez before adding his second goal in the 60th minute after an impressive individual run.
The brace took Messi’s career tally to 934 goals, leaving him 66 short of the historic 1,000-goal milestone.
The 39-year-old also strengthened his position at the top of the MLS Golden Boot standings, taking his league tally to 23 goals this season.
The victory was important for Inter Miami, who had gone five league matches without a win before facing DC United. Suárez and Messi both finished the contest with two goals each.
For Messi, the performance offered an immediate response after his emotional farewell to international football earlier in the week. He had scored in Argentina’s victory over Benin before returning to his club.
Attention will now turn to whether the former Barcelona captain can maintain his scoring form as Inter Miami pursue success in the MLS season.
With 934 career goals already recorded, every appearance brings Messi another opportunity to move closer to the 1,000-goal mark.
Can Messi reach 1,000 career goals before Cristiano Ronaldo?
