COMMENTSErling Haaland says the Anfield atmosphere was not more volatile than usual after Manchester City’s statement win over Liverpool.

Haaland and the Man City players were subject to heavy boos, jeers and mocking chants and banners in what was their first match since the club were found guilty by an independent commission of all charges related to serious breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules.

City deny the charges and have launched an appeal.

On the pitch though, Man City came through their first public examination with a 3-0 victory at Anfield in a game that was turned on its head by Ryan Gravenberch’s sending off just after the hour mark.

Haaland broke the deadlock two-and-a-half minutes later before sublime finishes from substitute Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki left many inside Anfield stunned.

Speaking after the game, the City striker was of the opinion that the atmosphere was no different than to what he has experienced during the Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp era.

“Not really. It’s always tough to come here in the Pep and Klopp era,” Haaland told Sky Sports. “It’s time to stay strong and stick together and do what you can do something about, that is to play good football (and to fight together because in the end, that’s the only thing we can do.

Liverpool fans voiced their anger towards Man City at AnfieldPA”It was a lovely moment that will stay with us a long time.

“It was tough and it was hard but again, we show amazing character from Donnarumma all the way back to the front. I’m so proud of everyone.”

Man City’s win means they have now taken three points at Old Trafford and Anfield already this season. Next up for Enzo Maresca’s side is a Champions League showdown with holders Paris Saint-Germain and the return of Pep Guardiola.
