Lionel Messi Makes Outstanding Prediction on Arsenal Star’s Career

According to a report by London Evening Standard on Sunday October 11, 2026, Lionel Messi has identified Arsenal teenager Max Dowman as one of ten young footballers with the potential to enjoy outstanding careers.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner included the 16-year-old in a list compiled for an Adidas video, providing significant recognition for the Gunners’ highly rated academy prospect.

Messi was asked to select young players he believes could become future stars. His choices featured talented footballers from different countries and competitions, including both male and female players.

Dowman was one of only two Premier League players named in the selection. The other was Crystal Palace youngster Zavier Gozo, whose inclusion further highlighted the range of emerging talent attracting attention.

The Argentine’s recognition comes as Dowman continues to make progress within Arsenal’s senior setup. The teenager has regularly featured in first-team matchday squads and has already received opportunities to play in competitive fixtures this season.

His rapid development has strengthened his reputation as one of the club’s most promising young players. Dowman has also moved ahead of Ethan Nwaneri in discussions surrounding Arsenal’s leading academy prospects.

Messi’s endorsement carries considerable significance because of his experience at the highest level of football. The Inter Miami forward developed through Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy before establishing himself among the greatest players in the sport.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has consistently demonstrated his willingness to give young players opportunities in the first team. Dowman’s involvement reflects the club’s commitment to developing academy talent while gradually introducing promising youngsters to senior football.

The Adidas selection offers further encouragement for the teenager as he continues his development. However, maintaining his progress will require patience, hard work and consistent performances whenever opportunities arise.

Dowman’s immediate challenge is to turn his growing involvement in Arsenal’s senior squad into a more established first-team role. Messi’s recognition has placed additional attention on his development, although the youngster must continue proving himself on the pitch.

For Arsenal, Dowman’s inclusion provides another encouraging indication of the potential emerging from their academy system.
