According to a report by Madrid Universal on Saturday October 10, 2026, Yan Diomande won the Man of the Match award after Real Madrid defeated Villarreal 1-0, delivering the decisive contribution that secured victory in a competitive encounter at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The Real Madrid attacker started the match and worked to influence proceedings against a determined Villarreal defence. His movement and attacking involvement helped Madrid search for the breakthrough during a frustrating first half.

Real Madrid created opportunities before the interval, with Kylian Mbappé striking the post in the seventh minute and missing another chance in the 21st minute. However, Villarreal remained organised and prevented Madrid from scoring.

Diomande continued looking for opportunities after the restart, eventually finding the breakthrough in the 62nd minute. His goal was initially reviewed by the referee using VAR before being confirmed, giving Real Madrid a crucial advantage.

The goal proved decisive in a match where Madrid struggled to turn their attacking pressure into clear opportunities. Diomande’s finishing provided the difference between the teams and helped the hosts claim three valuable points.

Vinícius Júnior later appeared to double Madrid’s advantage in the 71st minute, but VAR disallowed his effort following a foul in the build-up. The Brazilian was subsequently sent off in the 73rd minute, complicating Madrid’s task.

Diomande’s match-winning goal and overall contribution earned him the Man of the Match award, recognising his decisive influence in Real Madrid’s hard-fought triumph over Villarreal.
