‘It wasn’t my idea’ – Arokodare reveals Osimhen told him to dedicate goal to injured Dolberg

According to a report by Daily Post on Sunday October 11, 2026, Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare has revealed that Super Eagles teammate Victor Osimhen encouraged him to dedicate his goal celebration to injured Ajax striker Kasper Dolberg.

Arokodare scored the opening goal in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against NEC Nijmegen, heading home a cross from Jorthy Mokio before paying tribute to Dolberg by holding up the Danish forward’s number nine shirt.

Dolberg suffered a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury while training with the Denmark national team during the international break.

Speaking after the match, Arokodare explained that the idea for the touching gesture came from Osimhen, who advised him to show support for his injured teammate.

“I wanted to do something like this. Or rather, it wasn’t my idea,” Arokodare said.

“Osimhen told me, ‘You should do something like this,’ and I did. I thank him for that.”

Osimhen has previously shown similar support to former teammate Mauro Icardi, who suffered an ACL injury during the 2024/2025 season.

Arokodare’s tribute highlighted the solidarity among players during difficult moments, with the Nigerian striker using his goal celebration to send a message of support to Dolberg as he begins his recovery.
