‘I will deal with them’: Ruto fires fresh salvo at Uhuru over opposition links

President William Ruto is received at Mark’s Catholic Church in Matunda by Likuyani MP Innocent Mugabe/PCSPresident William Ruto has launched a fresh attack on retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing his predecessor of sponsoring opposition figures to undermine him because he is unhappy with his development record.

Speaking at St Mark’s Catholic Church in Matunda, Likuyani, Ruto claimed Uhuru was uncomfortable with the progress his administration was making in distributing development projects across the country.

The President accused Uhuru of opposing his government because he had failed to achieve equitable development during their time in power.

“There are people who are mad at me because I have said money and development should get to all parts of the country. I wonder why they are angry, yet we are all equal before the Constitution,” Ruto said.

He argued that affordable housing, roads and industrial aggregation parks should be established in every part of the country, insisting that no region should be excluded from government development programmes because of its political or ethnic affiliation.

“Affordable housing should also come here, roads too, industrial aggregation parks. Those who were not able to ensure fairness in development are mad at me for what I am doing to ensure we all have equal treatment,” he said.

Ruto claimed that those opposed to his administration were sponsoring individuals to criticise and undermine his government because they were uncomfortable with development reaching areas they had allegedly neglected.

“They are seeing development happening in all other parts, and that is why they sponsor people to undermine me,” he said.

The President warned his political opponents that he would confront their efforts to derail his administration, insisting that they had little new to offer Kenyans.

“I want to tell the sponsor and his people, I will deal with them. They have nothing new they are telling us. We know them, their capacity, what they can do, what they can achieve,” Ruto said.

Likuyani MP Innocent Mugabe and Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe accompanied the President during the church event.

Ruto also condemned what he described as outdated politics driven by hatred, tribalism and marginalisation, saying his administration was determined to end a political culture that he argued had divided Kenyans along ethnic and regional lines.

He maintained that equitable distribution of development resources was essential to uniting the country and ensuring that all communities benefited from public investments.

The President vowed to use the 2027 General Election to consolidate national unity and reject political mobilisation based on ethnic divisions.

“And in 2027, we will bring all Kenyans together and send that politics of hatred, tribalism and marginalisation away,” he said.

“We will be stronger together as a nation.”

Ruto’s remarks mark another public attack on Uhuru, who has increasingly been associated with opposition leaders seeking to challenge the President in the next election.

The former President has remained a figure of interest in opposition coalition discussions, as political leaders explore possible alliances ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
