I Stand Before You To Tell You, Gov’t You’ll Put On May 29,2027 Will Not Last More Than 4Yrs-Makinde

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who has been presented as the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), has declared that his proposed administration would operate as a transitional government of national unity and would not remain in power for more than four years.

Makinde made the declaration during the APM North-East Town Hall Meeting, which was aired by Arise News on Saturday, October 10, 2026. While addressing participants, he outlined his vision for Nigeria and explained the nature of the government he intends to establish if he wins the 2027 presidential election.

The governor described his proposed administration as a transitional government focused on bringing Nigerians together, suggesting that national unity would be a central feature of its mandate.

He also emphasised that the government would operate within a clearly defined period rather than seek to remain in office beyond four years.

According to Makinde, the proposed administration would begin on May 29, 2027, if he secures victory in the presidential election. He presented the date as the starting point of his planned government and reiterated that its tenure would be limited.

“I stand before you today to tell you that your government that you will put in place from May 29, 2027 will be a transitional government of national unity. It will not last beyond 4 years,” Makinde stated.

His declaration places national unity and a limited tenure at the centre of the political vision he presented to the audience.

The description of the proposed administration as transitional, however, was not accompanied by a detailed explanation of the specific changes or objectives the government would seek to accomplish within the four-year period.

Makinde did not provide further details in the reported remarks about the policies his administration would introduce, the institutional reforms it might pursue or the criteria that would determine the success of the proposed transition.

The statement comes as political parties and aspirants continue to present their programmes and positions ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general election.

Governance, national cohesion, economic development and political stability are among the issues expected to feature in discussions surrounding the next presidential contest.

By pledging to establish a government of national unity, Makinde has placed emphasis on the need to bring Nigerians together under a common political agenda.

His proposed four-year limit also distinguishes the administration he described as one with a specific duration and stated transitional purpose.

However, the practical meaning of the proposed transition, including its priorities, implementation framework and expected outcomes, remains to be clarified through more detailed policy proposals.
