Haaland Praises Semenyo as Ghanaian Star Impresses at Manchester City

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has praised Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo following the winger’s impressive performances for the Premier League champions.

Semenyo has made a strong impact since joining Manchester City from Bournemouth in January 2026, establishing himself as an important part of the team’s attacking options.

In September, Haaland described his teammate as the “perfect Premier League player”, highlighting his physical strength and all-round ability. The Norwegian striker also compared Semenyo’s qualities to his own, underlining the growing appreciation for the Ghana international within the City squad.

The praise followed City’s 1-0 victory over Coventry City on September 5, when Semenyo supplied the assist for Haaland’s winning goal. His contribution demonstrated his ability to create opportunities as well as threaten opponents directly.

Semenyo continued his productive run in the 5-3 victory over Sunderland later that month, scoring twice and providing an assist for Rayan Cherki. His performances helped Manchester City maintain their strong start to the 2026/2027 Premier League campaign.

Manchester City subsequently confirmed that Semenyo had been nominated for the Premier League’s September Player of the Month award. The club reported that he scored twice and registered two assists during the month.

The Ghanaian forward’s versatility, pace, physical presence and finishing have made him a valuable option across the frontline. His partnership with Haaland has also provided City with another attacking combination as they pursue success under manager Enzo Maresca.

Although the specific claim that Haaland suggested the nicknames “David Beckham” or “Tiger Woods” could not be independently verified, his earlier public praise for Semenyo is documented.

For Ghanaian supporters, Semenyo’s development at Manchester City offers encouragement ahead of future international assignments, with the forward continuing to strengthen his reputation at club level.
