Greg Norman blasts Qantas in tirade over long delays and says his decades of loyalty to the Aussie airline are over

Australian golf legend Greg Norman has taken a brutal swing at Qantas with a scathing message for the airline’s bosses.

Once a high-profile ambassador for Qantas, the US-based former world number one took to social media on Sunday to blast the ‘never on-time’ national carrier, describing it as outdated.

Norman, 71, was a VIP guest at the NRL grand final in Sydney last weekend and flew back to the US in recent days on a Qantas A380 which didn’t have Wi-Fi.

He claimed that his long haul flight from Sydney to Dallas was delayed from departing for three hours, and then waited another hour upon arrival to collect his luggage.

‘I have always tried to support my national airline,’ Norman’s rant began.

‘Sadly their reputation of the ‘never on-time’ airline (or the ones I am on – this time Syd – Dallas circa 3 hrs late departing), plus an hour to get one bag in Dallas now has me looking elsewhere.

‘Maybe Emirates – longer but reliable, Wi-Fi, comfort caring.

‘Too bad, as Qantas was once one of the top three in the world for a great travel experience. Alas no more.’

Admitting that the Qantas ground crew were ‘excellent’, Norman also accused the airline bosses of putting profits before passengers.

‘Profits before customer caring, reputation and service! And not to have Wi-Fi in this day and age with the cost/ticket, #insane #outdated’ he fumed.

‘Qantas admin – get to work and bring back the pride in ‘The Spirit of Australia’ and be a world leader in your industry again. #alottodo.’

Norman’s post was inundated with supportive comments and prompted many followers to detail their own negative experiences with Qantas.

Qantas confirmed the flight was delayed but did not specifically respond to Norman’s other claims when contacted by the Daily Mail on Sunday night.

‘Unfortunately, our flight from Sydney to Dallas Fort Worth on Saturday was delayed departing Sydney while our engineers fixed a fuelling issue,’ a spokesperson said.

It is understood the plane was 2 hours and 35 minutes late when it arrived in Dallas.

Wi-Fi is available on the airline’s 787s and A330 planes and is being rolled out across the A380 fleet.

Norman’s long history with the airline dates back to the 1970s and previously acted as a celebrity ambassador and partner for initiatives such as the Qantas Golf Club before it was decommissioned in 2019.

He spent 331 weeks as the men’s world number one golfer in the 1980s and 1990s

Primarily based in Florida, Norman travels back to Australia regularly.
