GPL Week 6: Hearts of Oak beat Port City to move second as Medeama remain unbeaten

Accra, Oct. 11, GNA – Hearts of Oak moved up to second place in the 2026-27 Ghana Premier League (GPL) after edging Port City FC 1-0 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on matchday six. 

After going three matches without a win, the Phobians returned to winning ways thanks to a lone strike from Frank Abora Duku, securing their third victory of the campaign. 

Medeama SC maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a convincing 3-1 victory over Heart of Lions. Kingsley Braye scored twice, while Emmanuel Annor added the third goal as the Mauve and Yellow extended their impressive run. 

The Tarkwa-based side now have 14 points from six matches and remain firmly in contention at the top of the table. 

At the Swedru Sports Stadium, Asante Kotoko suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Swedru All Blacks. A late Eric Darkwah penalty separated the two sides, handing the home team all three points and lifting them to mid-table on eight points, level with the Porcupine Warriors. 

Dreams FC’s struggles continued as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat against Karela United, extending their winless run this season. Malik Abubakar scored the decisive goal to earn Karela a valuable victory. 

Elsewhere, Bechem United defeated Vision FC 4-2, while Berekum Chelsea cruised to a 3-0 win over Debibi United.  

Bibiani Gold Stars beat Basake Holy Stars 2-0, and FC AshantiGold ’04 overcame FC Samartex 1996 by a lone goal. Young Apostles also secured a 1-0 victory over Aduana FC.
