Fubara: Wike Asked Me to Step Down, They Said I’m Not Going To Be Manageable, I’m Stubborn— Pidomson
Gabriel Pidomson, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, has explained how he was asked to step down for Siminalayi Fubara before the 2023 general elections.
Pidomson made this known during an interview on SYMFONI TV, where he spoke about his political journey and his relationship with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He explained that he first aspired to become governor in 2014 against Wike but was unsuccessful. Between 2017 and 2019, he supported Wike and helped establish the Wike Solidarity Movement, which campaigned for him when he was known as Mr Project.
Pidomson said he later sought to succeed Wike as governor but was asked to step down on the night before the governorship primary election.
According to him, Wike contacted a selected group of aspirants and asked some of them, including him, to withdraw from the race because he was considered stubborn and difficult to manage.
He added that Wike asked him to meet him at 10 a.m. the following day, leading to a lengthy discussion that lasted until 4 p.m. At the end of the process, Fubara emerged as the preferred successor.
Pidomson said he had continued to support other politicians over the years and believed his supporters still considered him relevant despite not having held a political office.
In his words, “He called a selected number of us; I was one of the persons he asked to step down, and that they said that I’m not going to be manageable, that I’m stubborn.”
