ECG Announces Eight-Hour Power Cuts in Parts of Accra and Tema

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced scheduled power interruptions affecting selected communities in Accra and Tema from Sunday, October 11, to Friday, October 16, 2026.

According to a report published by YEN.com.gh on October 10, the planned outages will allow engineers to undertake maintenance work on the electricity distribution network. The exercise is intended to improve the reliability of electricity supply in the affected communities, though residents and businesses should prepare for temporary disruptions during their scheduled maintenance periods.

The maintenance programme covers selected communities within ECG’s Accra East and Tema operational areas, JoyNews reported. The interruptions will vary by location, meaning residents should not assume that every community will experience an outage throughout the six‑day period. Customers are advised to confirm their community’s status through ECG’s official announcements before making arrangements.

Households may wish to charge phones and other essential devices ahead of a confirmed outage. Businesses that depend on electricity, including cold stores, food vendors, and salons, should also plan around the published maintenance times. Citi Newsroom highlighted that residents should rely on ECG’s official notices for updates and avoid sharing unverified lists of affected communities.

ECG has previously explained that planned maintenance exercises are intended to support service reliability, although temporary interruptions may inconvenience customers. Customers can check the latest information through the official Electricity Company of Ghana website (ecg.com.gh) before assuming that their area will be affected.
