(KBAK/KBFX) — A 29-year-old driver was booked into the Kern County Jail after Bakersfield police said they fled the scene of a deadly crash involving a pedestrian late Oct. 9.
Bakersfield Police Department officers responded at about 10:18 p.m. on Oct. 9, 2026, to the 900 block of Brundage Lane for a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
Officers found the pedestrian, an adult man, down in the roadway with major injuries. Medical aid arrived and took him to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police identified the driver of the vehicle as Patience Ervin, 29, and said they left the scene after the collision.
A preliminary investigation found the pedestrian was crossing in a marked crosswalk but against a red light. Police said Ervin was traveling westbound through a green light when the collision happened. Police said speed and impairment were not factors.
Ervin was booked into the Kern County Jail for hit-and-run resulting in death.
The identity of the man who died will be released by the Kern County Coroner’s Office. The investigation is ongoing.
