David Cameron enjoys early morning swim with sister after weekend marking his 60th birthday celebrations

David Cameron recovered from a heavy weekend of partying by enjoying a morning swim with his sister as his birthday celebrations drew to a close.
The former Prime Minister hosted three days of festivities including two boozy dinners for more than 100 friends at his Cornish holiday home but was up bright and early on Sunday for a cold plunge at the scenic Daymer Bay.
Lord Cameron, who turned 60 on Friday, emerged shortly before 10am and headed straight into the water with his youngest sister Clare.
Wearing blue swimming shorts, he braved the wind, rain and cool 13C temperature to spend a few minutes in the sea before heading back to his £2million country house.
By 11am he had clearly recovered from Saturday night’s antics and was seen strolling along the coast with three friends.
Celebrations were in full swing over the weekend despite the mostly miserable weather in Cornwall.
Cameron told the Daily Mail he had thoroughly enjoyed his birthday weekend. He said: ‘It was nice as the sun came out on Saturday afternoon.’
The former Conservative leader put on three days of celebrations after his 50th birthday was disrupted by Brexit.
He hosted two lavish dinners, catered by Michelin-starred chef Paul Ainsworth, while giant marquees were set up in his back garden.
Gordon Ramsay, Jeremy Clarkson and Helena Bonham Carter were invited and guests were treated to local cuisine before finishing off the celebrations with afternoon tea on Sunday.
Cameron, Prime Minister from 2010 to 2016, was seen making the most of his local beach throughout the weekend.
On Saturday morning he joined friends and family for a morning swim and walk. Shortly afterwards he was seen greeting a number of friends near the St Moritz Hotel, a £500-a-night spa where some of his guests were staying.
He was seen relaxing by the beach on Friday afternoon as preparations for the luxurious bash were underway.
Workers erected a number of giant marquees into his back garden and food and drink trucks were set up at the property.
White pennants and bunting could be seen fluttering from their roofs as the marquees in his garden were illuminated by festoon lighting.
He left his house at 5.30pm on Friday, during a short break from the day’s heavy rain, to have a birthday dip alongside two friends.
Locals told the Mail the Camerons often visit the beach, with one observing: ‘He keeps a low profile and tends to blend in. He and Samantha have been spotted on the coast path and you see him bodyboarding.’
Cameron had hoped to host a large gathering of hundreds of friends at Chequers, the prime ministerial country retreat, for his 50th birthday in 2016.
But the country’s vote to leave the EU four months prior to his big birthday meant he was forced to quit as Prime Minister and Tory leader.
A small private get-together at the home of a wealthy friend was instead planned.
There has been no expense spared for his 60th.
Cameron’s holiday home, which overlooks the area’s striking cliffs, is suited to hosting big parties.
When he purchased it for £2million in 2017, he said it was one of his ‘bucket list’ items.
And it has since been remodelled to fit a ‘chillaxing’ vibe, in keeping with his famous love of a party.
He has added a snooker room and a flat Sedum roof – a green ‘living’ roof covered with vegetation – in 2019. There is also an £8,000 wood-burning luxury hot tub and a shepherd’s hut.
Cameron famously installed a £25,000 hut, with walls lined in sheep’s wool and a wood-burning stove, in his Cotswolds garden, using it to write his memoirs, before adding a similar one to his Cornish property.
The 60-year-old is now a strategic adviser to the law firm DLA Piper, as well as being an adviser at US firm Scale AI and the private equity firm Finback Investment Partners.
He sits in the Lords as Lord Cameron of Chipping Norton. Married to Samantha, he has three children, Nancy, Florence and Arthur, who are now grown up. A fourth child, Ivan, died in 2009 aged six.
The family’s Cornish property has already made headlines for its parties. In 2019, it was reported that Cameron had to eject teenage friends of his then 15-year-old daughter after a gathering got a little out of hand.
Newspapers reported at the time: ‘While Nancy is adamant they weren’t drinking, David was joking to locals that he’s sure they were p***ed as newts.’
