Coeur d’Alene woman sentenced to prison for stealing more than $1 million in wire fraud from Spokane Valley business

A 48-year-old Coeur d’Alene woman was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for wire fraud.
COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho. – A Coeur d’Alene woman was sentenced to 33 months in prison after admitting she stole more than $1 million from a small Spokane Valley business.
The Justice Department said Tahnya Hyung Shafer, also known as Tonia, worked as the human resources manager for the company. Shafer is 48.
Prosecutors said she used several schemes to divert money between 2023 and 2025. They said she spent most of the stolen money at casinos in North Idaho.
The Justice Department said Shafer was ordered to repay the full amount in restitution. Prosecutors also said the business owner had to use personal money to pay employees.
