Claim says Nathi Mthethwa’s family relocating to France after suicide finding

Former South African police minister and ambassador Nathi Mthethwa died after falling from a Paris hotel in September 2025, and French authorities have since closed the investigation after concluding that he died by suicide, with South Africa’s Justice Ministry confirming in September 2026 that the matter is finalised and warning against unfounded information. A social media claim now adds that Mthethwa’s family is relocating permanently to France, but that part has not been established; the family did travel to Paris after his death, while his remains were returned to South Africa for burial. The post also revives suspicion around the circumstances of his death.

The source stops short of explaining where the claim about the family’s relocation comes from, since the post does not cite a source or provide any document supporting it. The post also does not say when the family is supposed to move or whether any of them have commented. Those details matter because they would establish whether the claim has any basis. Without them, the account rests on the post alone.

The reaction online included continued suspicion about the circumstances of his death, with some saying the French finding should not end the questions and others accepting the conclusion that he died by suicide. Some focused on the claim about the family’s relocation, while others said the family should be left to grieve. The reaction mixed scepticism with acceptance of the official finding.

It has not been confirmed whether Mthethwa’s family has commented on the claim about relocating to France or whether they have addressed the renewed suspicion. The French investigation found no evidence of foul play, and the Justice Ministry has warned against unfounded information. The public is waiting for more information, because the claim about the relocation has not been established.
