Breakthrough As DCI Finally Arrests Notorious Gangster In His Nairobi Hideout
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested Abraham Kimeli over allegations that he swindled a Kenyan woman out of Sh130,000 by promising to secure her a government job.
The suspect was reportedly apprehended at a hideout in Nairobi after detectives conducted weeks of investigations and forensic examinations. The case came to light after a woman reported being conned while seeking employment in Kenya.
Investigators said the woman was working in Lebanon when she met a man on TikTok in February 2024. The individual, who used the name City Tycoon, allegedly offered to help her find permanent employment in Kenya before her work contract expired.
According to the DCI, the man falsely claimed to work as a personal assistant to the Head of Public Service and assured the woman that he could secure a government position for her. He allegedly sent her documents that resembled official Public Service Commission records to make his claims appear credible.
Convinced that the opportunity was legitimate, the woman began making payments for the supposed recruitment process. Her employer assisted her in sending the money through Western Union.
She reportedly transferred Sh130,000 in total before the suspect became unreachable and stopped responding to her calls and messages. After discovering that she had been deceived, she filed a complaint with the DCI.
Following investigations, detectives identified the alleged fraudster and traced him to Nairobi, where he was arrested. He remains in police custody pending his appearance in court.
The DCI has urged members of the public to remain vigilant when applying for jobs online. Job seekers have been advised to verify advertised positions through official government channels and avoid individuals who request money in exchange for employment opportunities.
The agency further warned that scammers are increasingly using social media to deceive job seekers and encouraged anyone who encounters suspicious recruitment offers to report them to the authorities.
