Another Limpopo Artist Caught Red Handed With Unlicense Firearm Without Serial Number & 80 Round

A 27-year-old Limpopo artist has been arrested after police allegedly discovered a 9mm pistol with its serial number filed off and 80 rounds of live ammunition during an intelligence-driven operation at Rethabile Gardens.

The dramatic arrest took place during an operation involving the Provincial Tracking Team, Provincial Investigation Unit and Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit, working alongside Tshimollo Security and Investigations.

According to police, the team had initially been tasked with executing a warrant of arrest linked to a crimen injuria case opened at Lebowakgomo SAPS in 2025.

The case reportedly stemmed from allegations that the suspect had published vulgar and insulting remarks directed at a popular radio DJ on social media.

Following an investigation into the alleged online conduct, the case docket was referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who directed that the suspect be arrested in connection with the matter.

However, the operation allegedly uncovered a separate and potentially serious firearms-related issue.

Police say the suspect was found in possession of a 9mm Norinco pistol whose serial number had been filed off, together with 80 live rounds of ammunition.

The discovery has prompted authorities to pursue a separate investigation into the alleged possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

A new case is expected to be registered at Westernburg SAPS, where investigators will examine the circumstances surrounding the firearm and ammunition.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 12 October 2026, in connection with the firearm and ammunition matter.

He is also expected to appear before the Lebowakgomo Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, to face the crimen injuria case arising from the alleged social media remarks.

The two matters involve separate allegations and will proceed through the relevant legal processes.

The suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Police have not provided further details about the alleged firearm origin or whether additional arrests are anticipated as investigations continue.
