Aimal Wali Khan ‘declines’ support for Governor’s Rule, emergency in KP

Sources said that the prime minister and the interior minister requested Aimal Wali Khan’s support for the possible imposition of Governor’s Rule in the province.

According to sources, Senator Aimal Wali Khan declined to support the imposition of either Governor’s Rule or an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Sources further revealed that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also offered to appoint former chief minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti as the province’s governor.

In response, Aimal Wali Khan reportedly advised that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led provincial government should be allowed to complete its constitutional term.

Earlier, Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi ruled out any chance to avoid an emergency or governor rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), saying there is “no room left” to avoid it, suggesting that efforts to prevent the move may have reached a dead end.

Speaking informally to reporters, Naqvi said he had made every possible effort to avoid such a decision.

“Ask Barrister Gohar how far I went in trying to prevent this situation,” he said, adding that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) chairman Gohar could explain the extent of his efforts.

When asked whether a reconciliation was still possible, given that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman had gone to meet the prime minister, Naqvi urged reporters to ask Barrister Gohar about his attempts to avert the decision.

“Tell me how this matter can be avoided,” the interior minister said, adding that there was no room left for further manoeuvre.

Meanwhile, sources say Maulana Fazlur Rehman opposes both the imposition of an emergency and the introduction of governor’s rule in KP.
