The National Weather Service surveyed damage from a tornado that moved through parts of Screven and Bulloch counties Saturday afternoon as Hurricane Isaias passed through Georgia.
The tornado was reported around 3:15 p.m. in Screven County. Officials said no one was killed in the storm.
WJCLFamily members said three people were inside a damaged mobile home. Survey teams examined damage to trees and buildings, along with radar, satellite images and videos from residents, to determine the tornado’s strength on Sunday.
“When these trees snap part of the way up, if it’s a healthy tree, that’s usually indicative of a stronger wind speed than just a tree being uprooted,” Carl Barnes with the National Weather Service said.
But no single piece of damage determines a tornado’s strength, Barnes said.
WJCLA tornado’s intensity can change along its path.“We'll start working on getting resources in if we need them, you know, to clear trees and things like that on private property,” Screven County Emergency Management Director Mikki Saxon said.
Their office is working to connect residents with help, including resources to clear trees from private property if needed.
WJCLSeveral cars in the area were seen damaged on Sunday morning.Officials have not yet announced the tornado’s strength.
