2027 List: Chinda, Ex-IGP Adamu, Omo-Agege, Others Who Escaped INEC’s Hammer

According to a report by The Daily Trust on Sunday, October 11, 2026, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially released the final list of candidates for the 2027 general elections, putting an end to widespread anxiety surrounding several high-profile politicians.

Prominent figures who made the final cut include former Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu, former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, former House Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda, Senator Saliu Mustapha, Senator Shehu Buba, and Victor Ochei.

For weeks, political observers doubted their fate following a legal tussle over party membership registers. The controversy peaked when the Supreme Court upheld Sections 77 and 84 of the Electoral Act.

This legal provision mandates political parties to submit their membership registers to INEC at least 21 days before primaries, legally barring defectors who missed this strict timeline from contesting.

Many of these candidates had dumped their former platforms following disputed primaries or internal leadership crises, raising serious questions about whether their substitutions and new party tickets would survive INEC’s scrutiny.

While INEC leadership initially reviewed certified true copies of the judgment, National Commissioner Mohammed Haruna earlier hinted that ineligible candidates who bypassed party register rules would face the hammer.

Despite these hurdles, the release of the final candidate lists confirms that these political heavyweights have successfully scaled the legal and administrative screening.

Their inclusion sets the stage for intense electoral battles across states like Nasarawa, Rivers, Delta, Bauchi, and Kwara, where these figures will slug it out on alternative party platforms in the upcoming polls.
