Malik Abubakar netted the only goal as Karela United returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Dreams FC at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

The Karela United midfielder fired home following a brilliant piece of play by the host halfway inside the first half to compound Dreams FC’s early season misery.

The home side got off to a bright start after captain Fataw Mohammed came close to opening the scoring with a fine strike from distance.

Few minutes later, a cross from Ali Mohammed fell into the path of Abubakar following a poor clearance by the defence of Dreams, but the midfielder’s effort went wide.

However, he was not denied the second time after Ali combined with Mohammed Zaidan to serve Abubakar, who struck home for the opener.

Just before half time, Karela had another opportunity to double the advantage but Eric Antwi failed to deliver a pass to Abubakar who was at the far side with an empty begging.

After the break, Dreams FC forced a spectacular save from goalkeeper Ganiu Mohammed, their best effort from the game.

On the other hand, Dreams goalie Rahman Osman produced a match-defining moment to deny Karela from increasing their tally after saving strikes from Mohammed Mankuyeli and Felix Mortu.

Karela controlled the final minutes of the match, ensuring Dreams had no way back as they collected all three points to make it three wins in three home matches.
