20-year-old North Carolina man dies after shooting at Lenoir party

CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A 20-year-old is dead after a shooting at a party in Lenoir early Saturday morning, deputies say.

The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a shooting in the 4800 block of Grandin Road around 12:45 a.m.

Deputies found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. The victim was airlifted to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died from his injuries shortly after.

The victim was later identified as Michael Deandre Cowling Jr., 20, of Morganton.

Detectives are working to learn what happened and are asking for the public’s help in gathering information. Detectives urge anyone who attended the party or has information related to the shooting to contact the sheriff’s office at 828-758-2324.
