She rewore the custom Nicolas Ghesquière lace bolero from her July Odyssey premiere, this time over a white tank and jeans.

They met at her aunt’s house in Los Angeles in early February 2011, when Zendaya was 14 and needed a look for the February 8 premiere of Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never. Chastity Clark, a client of Roach’s Chicago shop Deliciously Vintage and a close friend of Zendaya’s dad, Kazembe Coleman, invited him to LA and brought him into the shopping trip. Zendaya had just landed Shake It Up, and Roach still owned the shop when they met.

At Kitson in Santa Monica Place, they chose a silver metallic Alice + Olivia blazer and an Alexander Wang patent-leather skirt. Her family lost track of them while they shopped; Roach later recalled that “her dad scolded her for running off with a man they didn’t know. We’ve been together ever since.”

Roach later explained that their pinky promise was a deal: he’d do everything he could to help her grow, and she’d take him with her as she did. Zendaya wrote to him in 2017 that he’d been her “one and only stylist since I was 14 years old.” In 2023, she described their connection: “We immediately connected, and we’ve grown up so much together.”

When he announced his retirement in March 2023, he made clear it didn’t touch her: “So y’all really think I’m breaking up with Z….. we are forever!” He kept styling her anyway. On September 19 he posted “New client” after dressing Kim Kardashian.
