Will Hurricane Isaias affect Florida’s homecoming game vs South Carolina?
0The weather forecast for Florida football's homecoming game against the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday calls for wet conditions in the Swamp after Hurricane Isaias made landfall nearby in the panhandle.
As of Saturday morning before the SEC showdown, thunderstorms are expected to begin early and continue until just before game time. Cloudy conditions are then forecast for around kickoff, followed by more scattered thunderstorms as the afternoon wears on.
According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, Florida:
"A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. Breezy, with a south wind 15 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms."
While the storms aren't expected to create deluge conditions, precipitation will persist throughout the day — except for the two-hour window around lunchtime. Moderate winds are also in the forecast, which, along with the wet field, should affect gameplay.
Be sure to bring your rain gear if you are heading to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
